Day 1 – Full day. Taquile Classic + Uros

Duration: 10 hours and 30 minutes. Distance: 75 kilometers round trip (takes 3 hours, 10 min. OW to Taquile, By Classic Motor Boat = 11 km/hour)

This excursion begins at 6:30am with transfer from your Puno hotel to the port. Then by motor boat (35 feet long with a covered section in case of rain or cold weather, 25 individual seats) we visit the Uros floating Islands. Stepping on them feels very much like a water bed (but it is quite safe). We see the houses, the islands and meet its friendly inhabitants.Uros people are descendents of one of the oldest South American groups. Rides on traditional reed boats can be arranged. In the mornings these islands can be crowded. We visit two of the 60 islands before continuing on to Taquile Island.

After a relaxed navigation of extra 2 1/2 hours when we get the chance to enjoy the spectacular views offered by Lake Titicaca, we get to Taquile island. There a unique community can be observed. A long path gradually ascending will take us to the village, the views are unique and worth’s. (45 min. hike approx) to visit the communal cooperative where you will find handy craft textiles of high quality. Lunch at one of the many local restaurants. The views are magnificent. Then we descent 500 steps down to the main port of the island. at 2:30pm approx. depart back to Puno City (3 hour return journey). At 5.30pm Arrival to Puno . on arrival at Puno we transfer you to your Puno hotel.

What to bring

For day trips on to the Lake, you generally need very little, but the following items are advisable to carry in a day pack and /or wearing them on.
T-shirt, optionally long sleeved shirt
Long trousers, optionally shorts (extra)
Warm clothing and a jacket or a fleece
Rain coat or a poncho ( only in the rainy season, Dec – March )
Hat and sun glasses
Sun screen (sun block) very important.
Walking shoes or boots
Camera and film
Money in Peruvian currency, take Small change with you
to try and Change a S/.100 note is next to Impossible
Water 1 liter (more to buy at the Island).

BOOKINGS AND HOW TO PAY
Reservations are easy enough to do. We accept bookings via e-mails, and payment would be on arrival (we pre-book any service you require and you simply reimburse us here at our offices in Puno). No deposit is required. (Basically, you send me a mail here confirming which tour you’d like to take, pay the money when you get here, and it’s done!)

Not always a cheaper tour means that you will pay less.
For years The Islanders On Amantani and Taquile have reported many abuses by some travel operators and tour guides, that did not pay them the official rates for their Home stay services, but this situation is at the moment solved thanks to the new administration that is making their rates to be respected.

Be aware that not always a cheaper price offered by some travel agencies means a fair price to the locals, and to YOU. You might find “cheaper prices”, but finally you can end paying extra and the local’s receiving less.

Be aware of not paying more than S/. 7.00 for the reed boat ride on the Uros reed floating islands, a higher price might be fair to you.
On Uros reed islands always ask for a discount if you are interested in some handy crafts, as they might be overpriced.
Be aware not paying more than S/. 25.00 For the lunch on Taquile Island.
Some travel agencies in Puno are not paying their guides and the guides are forced to try living of their commissions and therefore abuse of the locals and the travelers.
