An unforgettable experience! I can't say enough about our incredible trip to Punu, and it was largely thanks to our exceptional guide. From the moment we met, their passion for Punu's history and culture shone through. His knowledge was extensive, and he shared captivating stories that brought the sites to life. The guide's attention to detail ensured that every aspect of our trip was flawless, from transportation to dining recommendations. Their warmth and genuine care for our group created a truly memorable experience. We left Punu with a profound appreciation for its beauty and a newfound friend in our guide. Authentic Experience I did the 2 day trip visiting the Uros floating islands, Amantani Island and Taquile Island, staying overnight with a local family on Amantani Island. Gerson, my guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made the experience very enjoyable and the local family were very hospitable. Staying with a local family, eating in their kitchen and enjoying their food made the experience more authentic than a regular tour. The sunset hike was a definite highlight ????????

Realizamos una ruta por dos islas, donde pernoctamos en casa de familiars logareñas, muy humildes y que nos trataron estupendamente y nos cocinaron especialitzades locales que estaban riquísimas. Lui stesso è stata la guida dell'escursione e sin dal primo momento ha saputo catturare l'attenzione dei partecipanti grazie all'amore per il suo paese e per il suo lavoro. Un pozzo di conoscenza senza fine, mai banale e soprattutto rispettoso delle popolazioni che abitano il lago e che abbiamo avuto il piacere di conoscere durante la gita. Non è semplice bilanciare turismo e rispetto delle culture locali, soprattutto in un'era dove il turismo di massa tende ad appiattire tutte le esperienze. Ho passato una giornata unica che porterò nel mio cuore per sempre! Faccio i miei più sinceri auguri ad Edgar e a tutto il popolo peruviano per il loro futuro!!!

Once in a lifetime Edgar showed me around Lake Titicaca and was an expert on all of the history of the area, which was fascinating. It was a 5 star experience and one I will never forget. I am so glad I chose to explore this area, as I am not usually one for tours. I was even able to bring my dog to visit the floating islands, a once in a lifetime experience.

Fantastic experience Peru trip (Cusco-Puno-Titicaca-Colca) We had 5 days left in Peru after finishing our trek to Machu Pichu & we had no clear plans. My dear friend Lula helped us stitch a plan with Edgard “King of Puno” as she called him. We were to visit the Golden triangle of Puno, Lake Titicaca & Colca valley over next four days. The only hassle was that Puno still was unstable with protests & possible road blocks. Besides UK & USA travel advisories didn’t recommend traveling to Puno. Edgard however came to our hotel at Cusco a night before & explained the situation at the ground level to calm us. We bit the bullet & decided to be courageous one more time & said yes to the trip. RAINBOW MOUNTAIN (CUSCO) Just a day after finishing the trek, I had booked myself to ascend nearby rainbow mountain at 5036 meters. Legs were not ready but mind was. So I woke up at 5, packed my gear & was picked up for a three hour drive to the base camp. Another courageous soul from our group accompanied me on this ascent. All the previous experience came to help & I could manage this without any incident. Two really good things happened on this day trek. On my way up, I met an Indian-American lady Anna & we talked about our common interests. I hope we could do some trek together in near future. On my subsequent visit to the adjacent red valley, I made friends with a Pakistani man, Munis & his lovely wife, a couple from London who were on a long sabbatical & were traveling South America for last three months. We chatted in Hindi-Punjabi, shared stories of our hikes & travels & made promises to meet again. CUSCO-PUNO The courageous decision to this trip turned out to be the best one as we journeyed over next four days through varying Andean landscape. Vistas were so enchanting that we dared not close our eyes even for few minutes else we would miss a mountain or a valley. As soon as we left Cusco we had mountains accompanying us on both sides. For most of times there was a river flowing gently by the side of the road. Andean mountains here are mostly gentle giants. They do not overwhelm or intimidate you. They seem to protect you like the bosom of a mother a child can snuggle to. There are no jagged peaks but mostly rolling & swaying hillocks like the backs of local Alpacas & Llamas one can pat. we made brief stops at local village churches & museums to understand more about Inca culture & the Spanish influence on them after the invasion. After 10 hours of this breathtaking road trip we arrived at the city of Puno. LAKE TITICACA Next day was reserved for a day on the lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3810. Half of this lake is on the Peruvian side & the other half is on the Bolivian side. There are many natural islands on this lake & many artificial ones, known as floating islands. Each of these islands have 5-10 families living on them. These islands are made of multiple layers of lake-reed & are anchored in a way that they shouldn’t float away. Women knit, men catch fish - the local trout & living is mostly sustainable from the lake. PUNO-COLCA VALLEY After spending two nights at Puno, enjoying local delicacies like Guinea pig, Alpaca meat, it was time to move on to the next destination - Colca valley. This drive was through the Andean plateau & we entered into the National park passing through many flocks of Alpacas, Llamas & even Begonias, a protected species known for its expensive & warm wool. The landscape soon started changing. Now we could see few snow capped peaks rearing from behind like older snow-haired grandparents ensuring that everything is alright with the Andean family. We slowly climbed to the highest point at 4810 & entered volcanic landscape. At a distance we could see three famous volcanoes of this region especially the conical, majestic one named - Misti. Peru has over 5000 volcanoes, 12 of them are active. They are like angry relatives who have spewed in the past but are now trying to make peace with the present by nurturing valleys with the nutritious soil. Few are still angry & hissing. They just need some more time. COLCA VALLEY At Colca valley we stayed at a beautiful eco lodge for our penultimate night in Peru & treated our senses to hot spring pools, rejuvenating massages & facial therapies. We were booked next morning to drive to Colca canyon to see magnificent flights of Condors. Condor is the largest flying bird in the world & actually belongs to the vulture family. However after a lot of debating we canceled that trip & chose to sleep til late. For once we didn’t have to wake up at 5 in the morning. A leisurely five course breakfast & a tour of beautiful property set in a verdant green valley was one of the perfect farewell to the Andean country side. Till we see again or As they say in the local ancient Incan “Quechua” language - Tupananchis ccama…
