If you choose one of the travel alternatives to the lake, please be a responsible tourist. We strive not to disturb the ecological balance of this region.

1. Please do not give sweets to the children. There is no dental care on the islands, so this becomes a health problem.
2. Please do not give money to anyone unless you are making a purchase. Giving money may encourage begging over time.
3. Please do not give money to the family hosting you. A gift of food is better appreciated — this applies only to overnight stays on the islands.
4. Ask for permission before taking photos of people. You may give a small coin, no more than one sol.
5. Local families may offer you a traditional wool hat called a chullo to keep warm. Do not feel obligated to buy it, but if you like it, feel free to ask for the price.
6. Please bring back all non-biodegradable waste such as plastics, cans, etc.

For day trips to the lake, you usually need very little, but the following items are recommended in a backpack:

1. Long-sleeved T-shirt (optional)
2. Long pants and an extra pair of shorts
3. Warm clothing and a fleece or jacket
4. Rain jacket or waterproof
5. Hat and sunglasses, Sunscreen
6. Walking shoes or boots
7. Camera
8. Local currency in small denominations (1 or 2 soles coins, 10 soles bills). Keep in mind that there are no currency exchange offices on the islands.
9. One liter of water (available on the islands)
10. Additional snacks like chocolate, cookies, etc.
11. Toilet paper
12. Items 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 can be purchased at the port before departure.
13. If staying overnight on the islands, please also bring:
